Ethos and Values

At Mickley First School, our aim is to ensure every child has the best opportunities to reach their full potential. We want our pupils to develop independence, a love of learning and the confidence to succeed.

We are proud to be a small school with big ambitions, where every child is known, valued and supported to thrive. Our ethos is rooted in kindness, respect, high expectations and a strong sense of belonging.

Our Ethos

We believe that children learn best in a safe, caring and inclusive environment where they feel encouraged to try new things, make progress and celebrate their achievements. We aim to nurture the whole child, helping pupils grow academically, socially and emotionally.

Our school community works together to create a positive culture where children are confident to ask questions, express themselves and take pride in their learning. We believe that strong relationships and mutual respect are central to success.

Our Values

The values that guide our school life are:

  • Respect.

  • Responsibility.

  • Kindness.

  • Resilience.

  • Honesty.

These values help children understand how to make good choices, care for others and take responsibility for their actions. They also support pupils in becoming thoughtful, confident and considerate members of the school community.

British Values

We actively promote British Values across school life so that children are well prepared for life in modern Britain. These values are taught and reinforced through lessons, assemblies, daily routines and wider school experiences.

  • Democracy, by encouraging pupils to share opinions, listen to others and take part in decision-making.

  • The Rule of Law, by helping children understand the importance of rules, fairness and safety.

  • Individual Liberty, by supporting children to make choices and develop independence.

  • Mutual Respect, by valuing each person and recognising the importance of treating others well.

  • Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs, by helping children understand and respect diversity.

Learning and Growth

We want every child to enjoy learning and to feel proud of their progress. Our curriculum is designed to build knowledge, deepen understanding and inspire curiosity, while also developing confidence, independence and resilience.

Through enrichment, leadership opportunities and a broad range of experiences, we help children discover their strengths and develop the skills they need for the future. We aim for pupils to leave Mickley First School with positive memories, strong foundations and a belief in their own ability.

Working Together

We value the partnership between home and school and recognise that children do best when everyone works together to support them. We welcome the involvement of parents, carers, governors and the wider community in school life.

By working in partnership, we can ensure that every child is supported, encouraged and challenged to achieve their best. Together, we help our pupils grow into confident, respectful and responsible young people.
