Welcome to Mickley Nursery!
Our Nursery environment comprises indoor and outdoor learning spaces, accessible to all our children every day. The spaces are designed to promote independence and to provide children a plethora of opportunities through a delicately balanced, play-based approach.
Alongside this 3-4 nursery provision, we have a nursery provision for children 0-3 years old, called Little Rainbows – which you can learn more about here. Our nursery provisions are teacher-led, insuring a truly educational experience.
Phonics and Early Reading
We begin the Foundations of Phonics in Nursery, following the Little Wandle Phonics scheme, ensuring our children have the best start in their reading journey. We engage in daily short sessions introducing rhyme, stories and initial sounds. Having a language rich environment where books are celebrated develops a deep love of reading and language in our Nursery.
Mathematics
A concrete approach to Mathematics is begun in Nursery with planned opportunities to develop mathematical knowledge and skills. Using the Maths Mastery Curriculum, we provide the children with a fundamental mathematical understanding. This supports a deep understanding of number, supporting their learning moving into Reception.
ClassDojo
We use ClassDojo to keep in touch regularly with parents, sharing the children’s learning online.
- Individual Portfolios: We use ClassDojo portfolios to share ‘wow moments’ at home. This can be something your child is proud of and wants to share, or something chosen to show progress and achievements.
- Whole class posts: At the end of each week, we share a whole class post to share what we have been up to in school that week.
- Communication: We encourage you to send messages and add photos to your child’s portfolio. These can be shared in school to celebrate anything that has been going on at home.
Forest School Fun
Every Thursday, your child will have the opportunity to explore the natural world and learn through play in our Forest School sessions. These sessions are a fantastic way for children to develop their physical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
