Early Years Ethos and Values

Here at Mickley Nursery we value each child and celebrate their uniqueness. Our aim is to make each child feel happy, secure and curious about the world around them, helping them to become independent, enthusiastic life-long learners. The nursery class is part of the school and run by highly trained staff who are passionate about working with children and recognize the crucial development happening at this time in their life.

Children are most engaged when they are undertaking activities that are child initiated and based on children’s current interests.  When children show high levels of involvement, we see the strongest progress and development occurring. Therefore, we plan ‘In The Moment’ to help make this possible, meaning that we always follow the children’s interests and provide an environment that is flexible and inspiring. When activities are open ended and staff are open minded the possibilities for learning and having fun are endless. We understand that the outdoor environment is just as important as the indoors, and we often take our learning outside. The children love to go outdoors come rain or shine so we provide children with wellies and waterproof clothing when the weather is wetter.  Nothing stops the children from learning, we teach resilience and resourcefulness as part of our 5R’s which is embedded across school.

Our nursery offers flexible sessions, each session can take up to a maximum of 24 pupils per session. At the moment we offer 5 mornings and five afternoons but these are adapted to reflect demand. We also accept children with 30 hours funding and are able to accept children from their 3rd birthday.
